MY STORY

HOW SOFTCORE SKIN BEGAN

THE DAY EVERYTHING CHANGED WAS THE
DAY I DECIDED TO MAKE MY OWN SKINCARE.

In 2016, I was diagnosed with breast cancer and heart failure on the same day. That was also the day I decided to do what I always wanted to do. Make my own skincare.

I wanted to understand exactly what I was putting on my skin, and what each ingredient could do. Making formulas gave me something to get up for during a very difficult time. There was so much to learn, to try, and to make.

What I want most is for other women to feel beautiful, cared for, and vibrant in their own skin. I want their skin to feel soft, supple and deeply nourished, and to look healthy, radiant and full of life — simply the best it can. And I want them to know exactly what they’re putting on their skin, too.

My first batches went to friends. Then to women I had never met, who kept coming back. Their trust kept me going. That work became Lyquid Poetry. Then I moved to Amsterdam, and I had to let it go.Now I’m back in the US, and I wanted to begin again, but differently. Over the last few years, I’ve learned to judge myself less, accept myself more, and take care of myself with more love. That shift toward softness became part of what I wanted to make, too.

That became Softcore Skin. Botanical skincare for the face and body. A quiet moment with yourself, especially when life asks a lot of you.“Reteach yourself loveliness” is my own adaptation of a line from Galway Kinnell’s poem Saint Francis and the Sow. To me, it means learning to feel at home in your skin again, through everything life brings.

With love,
Myriam
